Sixth Target BatchFor the sixth round of Target Selection (Batch05), we selected 1698 proteins, from nine Mycobacterium species, which are orthologues and paralogues of the 183 M. tuberculosis (Mtb) targets already in the SSGCID pipeline. Based on discussions with representatives of the relevant scientific community, we identified the following nine non-Mtb Mycobacterium genomes (Table 1) as relevant for selection of homologues for Mtb targets already in the SSGCID pipeline. Seven of these species were selected because of their medical relevance, while M. smegmatis was selected because it is commonly used model organism that grows much faster that the pathogenic species. Not only will they provide excellent models for Mtb targets that have failed to yield structures in our pipeline (i.e. they are part of the Tier 6 rescue pathway), but they will provide important structural information in their own right. M. thermoresistibile was selected because it is relatively thermophilic, and thus may provide proteins that are more amenable to crystallization and structure solution. Future internal target batches may focus on selection of species-specific proteins from these species. Table 1. Mycobacterium genomes used for homologue identification
